Tasmanian Oak is a warm, dense and resilient hardwood. It works extremely well and produces an excellent finish. It can be used in all forms of construction as scantlings, panelling and flooring. It is recognised for its excellent staining qualities.
Grain interlocked and sometimes wavy, together with dark growth bands produce an attractive figure; somewhat lustrous; has a fragrant odor which persists even when dry.
Heartwood light yellow, golden brown, reddish brown, to a distinct red; sapwood whitish or pale straw, clearly defined.
The heartwood is bright yellowish red to dark brick red, streaked with darker lines. Although it is rather lustrous when freshly cut, it mellows to an attractive golden brown upon exposure and age.
