It dries fairly easily with minimal degrade, and there is little movement in performance.Ash has very good overall strength properties relative to its weight. It has excellent shock resistance and is good for steam bending.
COLOUR RANGE
The sapwood is light-colored to nearly white and the heartwood varies from greyish or light brown, to pale yellow streaked with brown. The wood is generally straight-grained with a coarse uniform texture. The degree and availability of light-colored sapwood, and other properties, will vary according to the growing regions.
COLOUR CHANGE
Ash undergoes a medium degree of color change over time by ambering from a pale cream colored when freshly sanded to a more a straw tan color as it ages.
IDEAL USE
The durability of ash makes it a great choice for high-traffic areas like family rooms and children’s rooms. Take advantage of the natural light coloring to brighten a room that doesn’t get much natural light, or make a small area like a hallway appear larger. The bold, open grain is perfect to help set off a contemporary, casual decor, from Scandinavian to Southwestern. The pale neutral cream to tan color will work with any colors that you choose for furnishings and paint, providing a dramatic contrast to bright and bold tones, and a soothing natural blend with pastels and other neutrals.
